Alpair Series Recommended Electrical Connection Method
Important Information
- The best connection method for the Alpair series drivers is by soldering.
- Make sure the tip of the solder gun, electrical wire and Alpair connector are clean, no grease, dust or any other contamination should be present. We recommend using "flux" or a synthetic cleaning product to clean the gun tip, wire and connector prior to applying any solder.
- Use a quality solder. Currently, European ROHS regulations ban the use of low temperature lead based solder. High temperature lead-free solder is being phased in. This solder also requires 100% clean contact surfaces to run and fix properly.
- Use a solder gun or soldering iron with a power rating of between 40 to 60 watts for reliable results.
- Pre-solder the wire and electrical connector for better results.
- Run the wire the full length of the visible section of the connector (see image below)
- Do not over-heat when applying the wire to the connector. Apply just enough heat to make the solder fluid and immediately remove the solder gun.
- Push Fit Connectors
This method can also be used but is not recommended. If used, please make sure the push connector is not too tight, it could break the Alpair 5 connector while being pushed into place. It is better to make the push fit connector an "easy" fit and having cleaned all components, apply a little solder to secure it. - Wire Size and Grade 2mm to 3mm wire diameter, high quality audio grade silver or oxygen free copper is recommended. Other wire can be used but we do not recommend any particular brand as personal taste and choice applies.
Note
- DO NOT bend the connectors. They must remain straight.
- DO NOT solder the wire on the inside of the connector. This will interfere with the magnet.
- DO NOT use very large wire. This is not necessary as the electrical load required for Alpair drivers is small.
