Alpair Audio Drivers

The majority of audio drivers produced today are compromised by their standardised designs, the use of lower-grade commercial materials and 'off-the-shelf' components. They rely on the brand name to convince buyers instead of delivering genuine quality. Buyers pay heavily for the reputation of many brands rather than actual quality in design, manufacture and performance. Markaudio has an alternative approach:

  • All components are 100% custom designed by our in-house engineers.
  • All critical components are CNC manufactured to tolerances of +/- 0.02mm.
  • All tooling, stampings, moulds and production jigs are individually made for the drivers.
  • All materials are specifically made and/or selected on the basis of best reliability and performance.
  • Markaudio staff physically inspects, supervise and assists with the production of components, sub-assemblies and final assembly for all Alpair drivers.

Chassis

Chassis

Alpair drivers feature a unique custom designed chassis that helps to absorb vibrations from the moving components.

Chassis (also known as frame or basket) are constructed from 4 different materials producing a polymer network that delivers high rigidity and assists damping. The characteristics of this design produces a resonance neutral tone similar to natural wood, unlike many steel and metal alloy baskets which can ring like a bell.

Coils

CoilsCoil designs are totally customized for each Alpair model. They are more efficient at heat removal. The mass of this component has been reduced to increase coil-cone sub-assembly linear stability, contributing to the overall performance gains.

Suspensions

Suspensions are critical on Alpair designs. We have extended the performance of this component by making use of a new material compound and added a secondary heat process during production for optimum component consistency. The new suspension design improves the 'return to rest' position of the cone/coil sub assembly, allowing Alpair drivers to operate at higher volumes, assisting in the control of distortion.

New Cone And Cap Materials

Cones and CapsMarkaudio began working with new Japanese and Taiwanese materials development partners in July 2007. The fruits of this collaboration are the introduction of new hybrid materials specifically produced for the Alpair family of drivers. Alpair driver's cones and caps are formed from new grades of compound alloys sourced directly from Japan, delivering greater stability while maintaining ultra low mass.

New Cone Finishes

New multistage coating and treatment process used to manufacture Alpair cones and caps, a significant advance to further extend control over cone stability. The process also allows us to change the sonic characteristics of the cones and caps by varying the mass and rigidity. Visually, the process allows for more colour choice and delivers a professional appearance.

Custom Connector Systems

New Connector ArrangementThe design of the gold plated connectors is a significant advance over standard components, by forming an integral part of the driver. The design permanently fixes the optimum angle for the wire connection to the coil. This feature reduces the length of the coil connecting wire, increasing linear stability of the cone-coil sub assembly.

The Result

Alpair series drivers deliver value for money, individual design, customised build with ultra-high audio performance in an age where too many users have to settle on buying standardised products. Markaudio is doing its best to offer an authentic alternative with the Alpair series of audio drivers, each with their own personality. Clarity, detail and ultra wide range are the main performance features, a result of many years of hard work to extend the full range single cone concept. We sincerely hope you enjoy using Alpair drivers and we look forward to contributing to the musical experience.
